1 Peter 1:8-13 CSB
Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy, [9] because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. [10] Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who prophesied about the grace that would come to you, searched and carefully investigated. [11] They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified in advance to the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. [12] It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven-angels long to catch a glimpse of these things. [13] Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Shield of Faith
In Ephesians chapter 6, Paul calls us to put on the full armor of God—the armor we carry into battle as Christians, both against the evil of this world and against our own selfish desires. Like prepared soldiers, we are each called to wear this spiritual armor, protecting ourselves and one another. Around our waist, the belt of truth drawn from Scripture. Across our chest, the breastplate of God’s righteousness made active in us. Our feet fitted with the readiness that comes from sharing the gospel of peace. On our heads, the helmet of salvation. In our hands, the sword of the Spirit—our source of strength, wisdom, and power. And in our grip, the shield of faith, capable of extinguishing every flaming arrow of the enemy. As Christians, we cannot go a day without them.
Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.
Faith is a shield that goes before us, securing our victory in the Christian walk. To be united with the Lord through faith is to drink constantly from a pure fountain of joy. Too often we are caught in battle, building our own little kingdoms out of doubt and fear rather than serving the Lord. But our faith overcomes this, turning us toward the glorious Kingdom of God and the newness of life it brings.
Salvation is born in us through faith—not through anything we have accomplished or striven toward in this life. No achievement of ours could bring it about. It comes entirely as the saving work of God. And even the faith by which we receive it is itself made possible only by the gracious hand of God.
Long before Christ walked the earth, God was already laying the foundation of our faith. The prophets, carried along by the Holy Spirit, set down words whose full meaning escaped even them—they turned their revelations over carefully, searching for what they could not yet see. What they could not see was the cross, the empty tomb, the risen Lord. They knew only that a Messiah would come, that He would suffer, and that glory would follow. We are the ones who have seen the promise kept. In Christ, every word they wrote finds its answer, and our faith finds its footing.
The joy we have in the Lord is not the joy of favorable earthly circumstances, which pass away like morning mist or smoke rising from a fire. It is anchored in the unchanging glory of Christ, and nothing can move it. When the body is laid down at death, the soul is not lost but released—and for those who belong to Him, what waits on the other side is not darkness but the fullness of eternal life in His presence.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of faith and the incredible salvation of our souls. Thank You that our standing with You does not depend on our own weak efforts or earthly accomplishments, but on Your unmerited grace through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Lord, equip us daily with Your full armor. Help us to hold high the shield of faith against the doubts and temptations of this world. Fix our eyes on the unmovable glory of Your Son, so that our lives may be filled with an inexpressible joy that points others to You. In the holy and precious name of Jesus, we pray.
